How does the hotkey work? Can I change it?

Press your hotkey once to start recording, speak naturally, then press again to stop. Your text appears instantly at the cursor. To change the hotkey, click the small SpeakUp icon in the menu bar at the very top of your screen, then go to Settings → Shortcuts → click the key field and press your new shortcut.

Is SpeakUp safe for confidential work?

Yes. Everything stays on your Mac — no data is ever transmitted. SpeakUp is ideal for legal, medical, and consulting work. No third-party access, GDPR compliant by design.

How much Mac resources does SpeakUp use?

Very little. SpeakUp runs as a lightweight menu bar app and only uses your GPU during recognition. At idle, it consumes almost no resources. There’s a dedicated Low Memory mode for Macs with 8 GB RAM.
